They sent an estimator who seemed OK at best. Prices are in CDN, I live in a large city with lots of companies around.Ĭontractor 1: Small-ish company, maybe 20 employees. None of them have done a load calc, or expressed much interest in doing one. I've already installed a Nest thermostat and ran a new 5 wire cable when I had a wall open. We run our furnace fan continuously and have added bathroom exhaust fans to all three bathrooms. Two 4" vents provide air to the crawl with one return up above in the joists. I replaced all the windows last year and insulated the crawl space walls with R20 closed cell foam, the concrete slab was left untouched. We rarely if ever turn on the baseboards. Our house is 1800 sqft, 1200 down (forced air) with 600 up on baseboard heat. I have an 88 constructed house in Vancouver BC with a 90kBTU Airco downflow furnace. I'm an industrial mechanic but not extremely familiar with the good and bad sides of various home heating/cooling.
